    Procrastination...

    Pretty much sums it up.

I bought this car from a fellow member in Chicago last October(2006). Drove it home and put it away just in time for winter and began collecting parts. After my last E30, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do with this car. Coilovers, turbo, 5-lug, and a stock interior were a few of the things on my short list. Most of you know my other car which is now owned by Ben Carufel, but for those who dont: http://www.e30tech.com/featured/mtriple/

Anyway, I began the process of gathering parts last winter and putting stuff away in the garage to await the build. Everyone knows how hard it is to come by a 5 lug setup in decent condition so I ended up ordering everything new from the dealer for not much more than what used setups are going for. Big thanks to blunt for the hookup...

    and some more stuff...

I pulled the car out of storage in April and this is how she has looked since June. I sold the weaves that came with the car to a local guy and as bad as I wanted to drive it, I didnt have anything to put on it and I didnt have my 5 lug wheels.

I actually got motivated back in July for an afternoon and got a few things done.

Lights with euro fog, filler plate, dual trunk light mod, and some sound deadening.

And then in August I got motivated again and started on the suspension. The car came with GC's and the short Koni's so I had to rebuild and reinstall everything into the 5 lug strut tubes. Shortened, new perch, and swaybar mounts reinforced.

    before:

    after:

picked up some new control arms from Joe (Funkmasta)

and picked up some track wheels... Thanks Carly! (Hugh Jass)

Last month I got around to rebuilding the M3 brakes that I found on S14. I ordered the rebuild kits and bushing upgrades from Turner and began to dismantle the calipers and strip off the silver paint...

Painted black with Duplicolor caliper paint. This stuff works really well...

And some "flair" courtesy of Jonathan (92 Mtechnic Cabrio)

And a couple weeks ago I got around to rebuilding an E30 M3 cluster that I bought from a guy on S14. New bezel, rolled the mileage back to match my M20, and added the new lenses for the fog lights.

And my wheels arrived last week from Jim (canyoncarver), 17x8/17x9 style 5's with polished lips and powdercoated centers.

    More updates later this week...

If I had not painted my car two tone, it would look very similar to what your car is. Massive props. Now I look forward to that mashaw goodness!! :)

Looks very good! Liking the plans very much.

Isnt that spring on the front strut tubes for the rear though? I could be wrong.

          -edit-
Just noticed those 16x8 style 5's too! I just put a set on mine yesterday. Love em!

Yes I think that is the rear spring mounted on the front strut. ;)
Won't those vinyl stickers melt off the first time you track the car and get real heat into the brakes?

            Nice work Super Dooper.
Glad to hear there won't be a kneecap killer cage in this car! ;)

EDIT: FWIW, we've had a good number of customers remove the TMS/etc. brass caliper bushings and go back to OE. Complaints of sticking rotors and worse pedal effort I think. They were also using the 'updated' version, so it wasn't the bad batch of the initial guides.

                Thanks guys...

Chris, I'm not sure how the stickers will hold up. I did the same thing on my Lexus a few years ago and it seemed to hold up fine, although the car never made it to the track. As for the Turner Bushings, this is the first time I've heard something negative. I had them on my E36 M3 and the rears of my last E30 and never had any issues. I greased the guide pins pretty good. I dont put a lot of mileage on my cars but I could see how they would be exposed to dirt and such with no dust covers...

I also went to TCD last month when I was in Columbus Ohio visiting family. I met with Todd and Beau for about an hour and really had a good time just poking around the shop and asking questions. Todd knows his stuff when it comes to forced induction and the quality and attention to detail on his turbo kits is second to none. Anyway, I ordered the stage 2 kit along with the TCD full exhaust, clutch, MLS gasket, and Raceware head studs. I'm hoping for a very reliable 300rwhp that I can drive up to BIR and track all day without problems. I should also mention that I picked up a Snow Performance stage 2 water/methanol injection system for good measure while I'm at the track.

TCD kit should be here next week. Todd was just waiting on the intercooler....

I can not wait to see how this car comes out. The car that you sold to Ben is just perfect if you ask me. Keep up the great work.
