    m42 into 2002 wiring

I am looking for help swaping a m42 into a 2002. Mostly on the wiring side of things. I just need to know where the ecu and ignition pulls power and grounds from. Does it get it all from the c101 connector?

I assume there is a constant power going to the main relay, then a switched power from the key going to the ecu which then turns on the main relay and power everything.

Where do these connections get made?
Also what ground connections need to be made?

Any help would be great. Trying to learn about all this before I dive in.

I have a m42 with the entire harness and ecu. I also have a 318is as a DD so I can look at that too.

If anyone has a wiring diagram for the entire car that would be great.

I am doing this exact same swap (complete E30 M42 with full harness and fuel system) into a 1971 1600 shell.... I would love to know more about your plans etc

basically, the 3 issues I've identified are:

    - rack and pinion conversion, or not...
    - custom exhaust header
    - driveshaft (custom?)

I'm a long ways from having my shell ready for the transplant (even the rust is rusting, haha) but I'm committed...

anyway, hopefully we can help each other out... thanks

        online tech manuals?

Is there any pdf online for any mechanical work for the e30's? I'm trying to get some stuff done- but I'm not keen on buying a haynes (none available for 91 318is w/m42 right?), and the factory manual is way to expensive.

        Anybody know of any sources?

I thought the M42 electrical is the same or at least based off the S14 M3's?

Way more money! M42's can be had for around $500-750 (complete, wiring/accessories). S14's will pull $4000+. The M42 is a great modern swap for 2002's without having to strengthen the chassis, suspension, brakes to accomodate S14 power.

                    I figured it all out.

Yes the s14 is waaaay more money. And $4k for a s14 you are going to get something that will be in need of a rebuild at some time which is far from cheap.

I got my m42 with EVERYTHING for $300. I can build this up for not all that much and will be lots of fun.

Good buy then. The turbo stuff more than covered. I can't even get a used up 1600 motor for that much.
