Always had an oil leak here. I suspect my car had a head skim before I bought it. Ended up using a little black rubberised "instant gasket" to seal it.

That could be a bad relay, my 635CSi did that....

That could be a bad relay, my 635CSi did that. Try new Motronic and fuel pump relays.

I'd agree with the comment about relays, fit new Motronic and fuel pump relays. I once temporarily fixed a dead E30 just by thumping it's fuel pump relay with my Leatherman.

The vacuum hoses under the intake boot are old now and may be in a very poor state, one of mine cracked earlier this year. Symptoms are what you've described.

Have a look at the smaller tubes...

The way to bleed lifters is to run a warm engine at 3500 rpm for three minutes. Worked for me on an M50 that had been run low on oil

Take off the top half of the intake manifold, it's not a big job. Fix / replace whatever mess you find under there and you'll be smiling by the end.
