As I recall, the Black Panthers came about because of rampant violence and poverty in black neighborhoods, exacerbated by drug use and drug dealings, which led to more police presence, which combined with the degradation of the family structure in black communities in the 60's and 70's led to more single parent families and less respect for the law, saw an increase in police presence and therefore more law enforcement, which led to more arrests and the feelings of being targeted unjustly by police. Even going back that far, there's a reason police were in those neighborhoods where the Black Panthers felt they were necessary; more crime was being committed there for various reasons.

Nobody will deny police tactics were more physical back in the 60's and 70's, even into the 80's and very early 90's. There were and still are cases of police brutality. Now, what someone like yourself, or someone in the media, or a tainted "witness" from a ghetto thinks is police brutality is often times a trained technique. People don't understand that fighting another human to the ground is not a simple task, nor is it pretty.

Why did Antifa come about? I don't know, it appears to me and many others to be a bunch of whining kids standing in roadways and destroying garbage cans and windows. What I know of them and their beliefs consists of this:

      1) anything they don't agree with is hate speech
      2) garbage cans are the enemy
      3) blocking traffic is "helping"
      4) it's Ok to dress up like riot police to block speech you don't agree with
      5) understanding politics and history doesn't matter as long as you shout loud enough
      6) any white person that isn't an "activist" is racist
      7) they're apparently an effective form of justice, on par with actual law enforcement agencies

Sorry but the black Panthers did a way better job of doing what they intended to do than these antifa kids. At least the Panthers had a pretty good structure and organization skills, the antifa guys just show up in their girlfriends/boyfriends skinny jeans and throw stuff, scream and think they are morally superior to everyone that doesnt think like them.

It's getting to the point where they just yell fascist!!!! If its something they dont agree with. Most of it seems that they dont understand law and order and deny think rules apply to them. Lots of people are getting sick of their shit.

and to address your point #4- hate speech is not constitutionally protected, by supreme court ruling.

In 1969, the U.S. Supreme Court made history by ruling that, to merit conviction, the violence advocated must be intended, likely and imminent. By Jeff Howard.

“Freedoms of speech and press do not permit a State to forbid advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action."
the proud boys were breaking the law. the police protected them and escorted them out, rather than arresting them. you're surprised people were upset about it?

Right there is enough to tell me I don't like them, in addition to literally everything I've seen of them online and in person.

And the very fact you claim to be "anti fascist" while employing tactics straight from the fascist dictionary "forcible suppression of opposition" is hilarious.

Sure, Hate Speech isn't protected, the issue is that everything is being called hate speech now that college kids and antifa disagree with.

Similar to how members of Antifa weren't all rounded up like cattle and arrested for unlawfully blocking streets, destroying windows and public property?
Getting them out of the area perhaps was the quickest way to resolve that issue, do you know if any were cited or had charges forwarded? Was there actual hate speech occurring, or was it a protest that they put on within the confines of the law that simply irritated your group?

                read the bold part again.

debate whether it's hate speech if you want, but disrespecting the funeral vigil of a dead black girl, in a black community, *is* inciting violence. don't know what other response one could expect.

So then why isnt antifa being chucked out of town? Part of it is these waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles mayors and police chiefs. If I were one or the other, as soon as damage happened or a fight broke out I'd end the shit show right then and there.

gee i dunno, why didn't i get arrested? probably because i was protesting non-violently and they had nothing to charge me with.

there was a captain-rank officer onsite. i thought we just got through discussing how they're the good guys?

But if they're non-violently protesting or disrespecting the vigil don't you see the issue?

Just because you think you're non-violent in your protests doesn't mean it's incapable of "inciting violence" in those who feel strongly about the things you're protesting.

Let the courts decide what they want to say constitutes hate speech, it's not the right or job of a bunch of self-proclaimed anarchists to decide what's allowed and what's not. The very rights they claim to fight for are the ones they're violating in groups they counter protest.

When some people fully believe they are taking the moral high ground and that high ground is the be all end all only answer and all critical thinking goes out the window. To them if you think anything less than them, then you are a fascist or a nazi. The first amendment and being rational goes out the window because of feels.

Trolololol. So "my protest mattered," because you got the police to arrest a guy........that they were already searching for (that's how they were able to put out a description, and have an anonymous caller tip them off), to you denied a few hilljacks the ability to say things you don't like?

God damn dude, you are truly a revolutionary. No one has ever made a bigger difference, or fought harder, for the common man than you have.

Oh sad, sad little contrarian. Hate Speech IS protected.

That's the upshot of the "Slants" case (which will also protect the Redskins trademark) -- and it applies to exclusion of speakers from universities, denial of tax exemptions to nonprofits, and much more.

                              You're welcome.

Unfortunately most people are so brainwashed about being PC and such, they don't actually do research, study history, the Constitution, etc. Hence you're far-right bullshit self believing hate speech isn't protected.

Just like decay trying to twist the facts of the Oakland stabbing case to fit his narrative. Go back and read, he doesn't deny anything I say, just moves the goalposts.

The ENTIRE POINT of the 1st Amendment is to protect an individuals right to say things that are challenging, provocative (even for the sake of it), unpopular, etc.

Props to you, Decay, you are about the only reasonable person I have seen in these last several pages. For the sake of this country, more people need to take a very serious stand against the rise of fascism in America.
