Be hard pressed to prove the engine isn't original to the car. Wasn't even until the end of the (Us market) e30's had the VIN sticker on the engine bits, and even then it's a laminated sticker which I have seen fully bleached out by now (even see e36 stickers that can barely be read).

The Euro engines got identification stamps, though.

That wagon would be a great recipient for my drivetrain.

It would be the first “stock” touring to sell this year if it does...

I really like the touring, wish the e39 we just picked up was a "t".

Picked up 1 owner with all documentation/receipts (well 2nd owner had the car for ~6mos serviced at my place) e39 540 M-Sport 6 speed for $1k. We did a new alternator and 2 oil changes, and the PPI for owner #2. We had a small flash flood and the owner (#2) decided to try and make it through the puddle - hydro-locked the 160k mile motor and put a rod through the pan/block. Low mile m62 is sitting on a stand awaiting time to change the timing components and install. Gonna be a sweet daily :)

Oh, and since we have off topic cars, this caught my eye since I had a 72 620 manual truck in the mid 90's (my first engine rebuild) that I bought for $300 in really decent shape....the modern prices of these are blowing me away as they were littered in the JY's back then. :(

As someone in the process of swapping a 318is, I was very conflicted and started a thread on it here about whether or not it's the way to go. People told me that it would hurt the value, and that it'd be a waste or whatever, but decided on it anyways.

There's still plenty of 318is with m42s on bringatrailer that don't get mad money for whatever reason, and at least for me, 80% of the late model e30s I see on craigslist in my area are 318s. Hell, there's one in better shape than mine for less than I paid right now.

My parents bought a brand new, ‘79 Datsun D210 when I was little (prior car was a Duster) and we drove that thing everywhere! I rode many miles laying under the big glass hatchback (totally reckless and illegal by today’s standard) and can still remember the cheap plastic covers all over the inside. I’m sure when my dad eventually sold it to two Hispanic dudes there was at least an entire 64 box worth of crayons hidden in it.

Funny thing is, it was a one year front end style and you never see them. If I could find a brown hatchback one, I’d be hard pressed not to buy it.

                                Mileage is meaningless with restorations.
