This is what was happening before changes were made during Obama's time that they are threatening to roll back now. Old story, but maybe not everyone has seen it.

I'm constantly surprised when I hear people talking about Net Neutrality as if it were a bad thing. As demonstrated here, they are either horribly misinformed (thanks Fox), or just stubbornly aligned with the right. Touting the "free market" argument out does not apply to telecoms because they do not compete. Their service areas are cut out through contracts with municipalities so Time Warner, Cox, Comcast, etc. are the only game in town when it comes to broadband. That's one of the reasons Google Fiber is taking so long to roll out... they are being denied access to the service poles and infrastructure under those agreements.

Net neutrality is extremely important to the future. The internet is one of the few places left where you aren't forced to jump through some sort of gate way hoop to get to content you desire (except geographical limitations). As mentioned, if declassifying the ISP's as title 2 service providers occurs they are free to decide what (and how fast) you have access to content.

The biggest red flag to anyone should be the ISPs' listing problems they have had prior to 2015 citing the law in 2015 as the reason they had problems in 2011 and so on.

Or the fact that they took 400Million+ of our tax dollars to roll out fiber in major cities and didn't roll out any at all.

There is no 'Free Market' happening when corporations paid off politicians ahead of time to own all the infrastructure to disallow any new players.

          This right here is insane:

The Federal Communications Commission intends to keep secret more than 200 pages of documents related to an alleged cyberattack that the agency says impaired its systems two months ago. The agency claims that it was bombarded in early May with traffic originating from a cloud service, which caused its website to crash…

The governments commission on Internet changes didn't document the biggest DDoS they have ever encountered? More like it didn't happen. Especially considering their ISP is noted for having survived many huge DDoS attacks in the past.

          A quick Google shows they were not even down that day;

Even more obvious evidence was posted by this user on reddit:

At this point its pretty obvious Ajit Pai still works for Verizon, and by extension the rest of the big name ISPs.

Verizon is still technically under Title II and it's laws so this could get interesting.

It's okay... they've got a guy that can take care of this.

Though after reading the article it seems to only affect mobile devices... I'm curious to see what's going to happen when EVERYONE is using a VPN. We all know how much the security agencies will love that.

Considering who their previous CEO was, I doubt anything will come of it either.

They will do what they have done in the past and start blacklisting VPN providers.

                        Tis a sad day.

ThatOneEuroE30, I think that might be the very beginning.

The internet is a tremendous, unmatched, resource that allows people across all lines to communicate. Giving corporations the ability to freely restrict certain websites (reddit pops into my head immediately) does not have a happy feeling associated with it.

                          they're enabled to.

the best analogy i can make is- you know how comcast or whoever your cable provider is has packages that they charge you for if you want to watch certain channels?

your ISP can do that with the internet now.

Until some religious group (evangelicals) gets offended enough and wants all porn throttled and wont allow pay packages.
