    Borla Exahust on 325ix?

I've used Borla exhausts on prior cars and am at a point where my exhaust may need to be replaced. I saw Borla has an axle back system for the E30 M3 - anyone have any success installing this in a 325ix?

Here is a link to the product: https://www.borla.com/products/e30_m...rt__11283.html

You'll need to modify it. The M3 and other E30s are pretty different when it comes to exhausts. And by modify, I mean, redo the flanges, and possibly the subframe tabs. I don't know if it'll exit in the right place, either.

I highly recommend that ebay "alxe back" (yes, really, spell it that way) muffler. For sub $200, you get a 409 stainless muffler that fits well, is moderately louder than stock, and is reasonably durable.

Just go with (MagnaFlow 16535). it's a straight bolt on for the ix.

It’s loud. Sounds good if you like loud, but it’s too loud.

I've personally never heard this system in person, so I don't know how loud it is.

This is made to comparable quality (Magnaflow has nicer welds, but uses the same shitty 409 “stainless”):

And you’re hard pressed to find something cheaper. I’ve been using two of these for years. We got the first one in 2014, and it’s still good. They are mildly louder than stock, but in a pleasant way. And you can have 3-4 of them for what the Magnaflow sells for.

Interesting on this setup here. I too don't like loud exaust. So I stick with stock setup for that reason.

Does that run stock exhaust hangers?

One thing about most aftermarket mufflers is the hangers suck ass. I was trying to track down this horrible noise in my E30, I thought something had come loose on the subframe.. turns out it's the exhaust banging around on the shitty hangers that can't hold the muffler in place properly.

You have any video sounds clips of this exhaust on your e30?

No, but I can tell you that videos are useless for this. (I’m currently putting it back together after catching up on some maintenance.)

How is the sound compared to a stock setup?

Definitely louder - it’s got some tone, but it’s still, say, inside the noise level from my E90 M3.

A friend had that "alxe back" on his cabrio. It's definitely louder than stock while still sounding pretty quiet. You really only hear it if you get on it. IIRC.

I have the magnaflow (my car is on youtube w/ a clip), and agree with nrubenstein. Its def louder than I like.....only thing I do love is the aesthetics of the tips since I've always hated the bent to the side design of the stock tips.

Best sounding exhaust for me is the Supersprint....and I do like the Billyboat, although that is loud too. my old Remus sounded great, but the obnoxious sized tips had to go.
