New to e30, New to CO

Whats up e30 family. I just picked up my first e30 about a month ago, and in about a month I will be moving to Greeley, CO!

Im hoping to get connected with the e30 family in Denver. (will be in CO around August 4th)

Im riding in a 1989 325is bone stock minus some H&R's.

Future: I was 100% set on forced induction, but now I'm almost positive I want a 24v swap (s50 if I can save up the money!)

PS. Before this car I had never really even turned a wrench on a car, so I'm hopeful that through the connections in CO I will be able to learn a ton/make some friends to tackle some things in the future!

For now, here are some pics of GG from yesterday.

Did you replace the timing belt before the drive? Haha. Clean car man!

I appreciate it! Took months of searching!

I did not change the timing belt until I got down here (thank God she made it!) But since then its been running great minus some poor throttle response I can't figure out!

Funny thing Chrisbike, I started following you on instagram like 2 months ago when I was on the hunt for an IX, glad we crossed paths on the forums!

Looks like a nice car! Seems to me Drive 4 Corners would be the perfect event for you to meet some fellow BMW enthusiasts from the region!

Just caught a flat this morning so shes out of comission until I can get some new tires (I needed new tires badly anyway!). Any advice on the kind of tires I'll need being in the Denver area, Im new to snowy conditions.

You'll be fine since you have a LSD (I think some people still use the sandbag trick but it's probably not necessary, If it were me; I'd just get some Summer's right now and find a set of decent winter tires on Craigslist or something. I'd only buy all seasons if I couldn't store 2 tire sets. If you do get all seasons, buy from a reputable brand... Idk your options since your on a 14" wheel and the iX has 15's

Cool, I think I'm going to pick up some super cheap ones just to get my by until I save up enough to get some new tires. Found some for $37 each lol.

Question: I'm in Orlando, FL right now so obviously I'm in desperate need of AC.

How badly (if at all) am I going to need AC in Denver?

Welcome to hell. Hope you have covered parking as I just had my near perfect IX ruined by hail this week at work, and the roads around here are terrible they beat your car to pieces ,and then there's the record snowfall this last year ,IX was in its element but shure get tired of shoveling it and they aren't good at plowing. Then the Mag chloride treatment makes your car rust badly.Ready to move back to PNW.

Answer to OP question: your absolutely going to want a/c during this time of year.. 80+ is normal. Also I'm sorry to hear that spdracrm3!! Is it getting pdr repair? Couple weeks ago we got really nasty hail in highlands ranch. 15k in property damage luckily I have a spot for the iX to park and it didn't get damaged. My brothers xterra got pretty beat up though. I didn't know that we use mag chloride. I thought it was just sand. I need to redo my undercoat..

Gotcha, do any of you have any experience with the r134a conversion? Im trying to figure out if I want to do that conversion or stay with r12. I've had a bunch of people tell me a bunch of different things so would love your input if you have any.

Got a quote for $150 for a recharge with dye in it the other day FYI. Im worried about leaks

Looking good! Funny that you're in Orlando now. I'll be in Colorado in a few short weeks.
And yes, A/C is a must here! My thermostat was reading 100'F today.

Something to consider with the R12 to R134a conversion is that the R134a is more environmentally sound. It's still bad, 1300 times as bad as carbon dioxide, but it's still not as bad as R12.

If your planning on doing a r134a conversion it will cost you unless you do most of it yourself besides discharging/ charging the system. You'll have to replace 5 of the a/c lines, compressor, and dryer. I'm missing something. If your r12 system is working fine id just get it recharged.. I made it through fall/ summer with no/ weak a/c and probably won't get it charged until next fall.
