    transmission bracket mount point

    I finally got underneath my car to check out the transmission bracket problem - my mechanic reported that the bracket was held on only by one bolt, as the other had rusted free on the passenger side. Here's the situation:

    My understanding is that to fix this, I need to:

    * remove carpet
    * remove driveshaft
    * remove exhaust
    * use jack to support transmission
    * remove transmission mount bracket
    * brush/grind out rusted area
    * fabricate replacement patch out of sheet metal
    * apply weld-thru primer
    * weld in patch
    * POR the whole thing
    * find a new bolt/nut
    * re-assemble

    Is there an easier way? Or, is there anything I'm missing? Or, is there anything I should probably also do while I'm doing all this other stuff? (I assume if I've already got the carpet out and I'm doing rust repair, I should probably repair any other rusty spots in the floor.)

    I've think you summed it up. My guess is that's not the only place. While you have it all apart, look for anything else that needs to be addressed while you have the tools and supplies handy.
