    Exact e30 production numbers

Updated first post for correct pic so there won't be any more confusion.

And there are definitely some years/ makes that are unicorn! Can probably be used to barter prices for the better or worse. "Well they made 45600 of these it's not THAT special"

92 verts aren't a plenty, so that's pretty neat. I have something "sorta" uncommon.

        who's hiding these rare unicorns?

Keep in mind, this is a breakdown by production dates, not model years.
There were 9 US-spec 318is that were built in 1989. 4 were sold to the public. 2 to Canada, 2 to US. Out of those 4 cars, only 1 car is still on the road in Canada.

M10 powered 318 was in production until mid 1987. After that, M40 engine took over.

There were 128 325i Sport manuals built for the US market. 10 are Calypso. There were also 448 automatic Sports for the US market. 37 are Calypso.

You seem to know what you are talking about, where did you get that info? And thanks for the breakdown.

Had no clue they did any sort of knock-down with E30s. South Africa I imagine?

This is a better explanation of the whole thing than I could summarize:

Actually kinda surprised there is an article on this.

I thought a lot of South African BMWs were assembled in such a manner, but they have had a plant there since '68, so I'm not really sure.

here "knowck down kit" as it relates to BMW and other car makers:

With CKD operations crucial to many manufacturers' global strategies, Anthony Coia looks at the issues of cost, reusability and customisation in packaging the vital kits One way packaging; 3PL services; The cardboard way; Economic efficiencies; Packaging solutions; Logan's run; Three-pronged approach. As a method of vehicle assembly, the complete knockdown system ...

Most of these kits were in relation to the boycott of South African made products due to apartheid.
As I understand it, there were companies who didn't wan't anything to do with BMW in the Apartheid years.
SA sourced a company who would provide them with an Italian made body (Glas) and then use the
powertrain from BMW and marry the two together for the SA market. Only SA was the only country
to build BMW's and MB's outside of Germany.

Volvo was another company who withdrew
from SA during these years, but nobody wanted anything from a Volvo lol

Here's some leisure reading for those interested in BMW's place in SA

                  Here's what a BMW 1800SA and 2000SA looked like.

                  Really homely looking things!

About 90% of those CKD cars are in fact South African. However, some were built in Malaysia and France.

Some countries have high taxes on foreign cars. To avoid being taxed, some manufacturers set up assembling factories in those countries. Manufacturer ships parts and then local workers assemble a car for the local market. BMW does/did it in a number of countries.(Egypt, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Brazil) Most of the time manufacturers don't even own the factory, but outsource it to another company. For example, some BMWs for the Russian market are built at the same factory as Chevrolets, Kias and Hyundais.

Thanks! Where did you find the breakdown by color/option?

Also was that just for 91 or total for all production years?
