    1972 BMW 2002tii - Matching #s, 5 Speed, 4 Wheel Discs

    EDIT - SOLD

The iconic 2002 Tii. This one, being a 1972, has the small bumpers and round taillights. It also has some really nice, tasteful upgrades. It has an E21 5 speed, rear disc brakes, braided stainless steel brake hoses, Bilstein shocks, 15” BBS Wheels (original 13” alloys with new tires included but don't clear rear discs). The interior is really nice. The headrests were removed per the owners request, but can be added back in relatively easily. They are not included, however. The paintwork is exellent, with a few small imperfections. There is some paint damage under the gas cap, and a few tiny (less than 1/4”) bubbles on the trunk lid, one on the passenger C-pillar and some minor scratching on the chrome bumpers that may polish out. Cosmetically, I would say this is a local show winner as-is, and with a little work, a regional winner. Under the hood, it is very clean and nice. The front radiator support has a snorkel intake, so I don't know if it has been replaced or not, but I see no evidence of that.

The matching numbers engine was blueprinted years ago – the cylinder head was done by Elgin Cams back in the 1990s. It runs very well and pull strong. It had a partial restoration by the Werk Shop (BMW specialist), and has simply been lovingly enjoyed since. The current owner recently took it on a 3500 mile trip with his wife. Didn't miss a beat, and only used about ½ qt of oil. There are stacks and stacks of receipts dating back to the 1980s. This car has been blessed with caring owners its whole life.

This is a JOY to drive. It starts easily, with no smoke, runs smooth and easy with great power, and suspension that feels firmer than original and fun to drive, but stupid stiff like a track car. Shifts are easy with no grinding, clutch engagement is easy with no slipping. If I had to sum this car up in one word, it would be “sporting.” There is a reason that so many of these 1600's and 2002's were sold in the 60s and 70s. They are really functional and reliable cars. The greenhouse and visibility are great. The trunk is large enough to fit four wheels with tires mounted (!). The rear seat fits normal humans.

This is an investment level collector car, but one you could easily use every day, and for errands and utilitarian purposes. It is hard to get better than that with a car that is super fun and enjoyable.

    $35,000

Actually a customers - but I don't mind driving other peoples cars sometimes, especially when they are as nice as this.

Rear disc brakes and a 5 speed transmission are not that hard to change back to drums and a 4 speed!
