Bilstein B6 (HD) Rear Dust Boot/Cover - RE RSM

Hey gang- First post here during my first project on the new E30. I've been searching around this forum and others and can't find a good answer to this question:

I'm installing Bilstein B6 (HD) rear shocks and Rogue Engineering RSM's on my '89 E30 sedan. The old shocks are KYB gas-adjusts with an integrated (welded on) dust cover/shock boot, so there is no stock dust boot. I bought two of the OEM boots (part no. 33 52 1 129 263, here: https://tinyurl.com/ybqdlu46) and two bump stops. Both were the part numbers my mechanic listed on the inspection invoice.

Problem is, there is just nowhere to attach the shock boot, like it does not hang on any point. The diameter is so big that it slides right over the bump stop, all washers, and over the whole shock body.

How do you get the damn dust cover installed on the shock itself? Is there a different dust boot I need? Seems like such a ridiculous issue to hold up the rear suspension refresh, but it's literally the last piece of the puzzle.

Also, if anyone has a pic of their bilstein rears mounted up on RE RSM's, I would love to double check my work to make sure everything is in its righ place.

    Thank you!

      Figured it out

Looks like I'm missing the lower cupped washer/plate which should be large enough to catch the top edge of the shock boot.

      Blue arrow in the pic.

Welcome, you will also want a reinforcement:
BMW REAR SHOCK REINFORCEMENT KIT BMW sheet metal at the top of the rear shock towers in E30, E36, and E46 BMW cars is a well-known weak point. The metal tends to tear over time, especially if stiffer shocks are used. This is really cheap insurance to not need to repair shock mounts in the future which is known to be
