    Is it a 4hp22 or a 4hp24?

Just about to put an M30 with auto (i know) into an e30 cabrio when I noticed that the transmission (which came from the e30) has 4hp24 stamped on it with a 4hp22 badge. Third picture shows stamp and badge.

For the swap i am using the m30 engine, bell housing, torque converter and the e30 (m20) automatic tranny/pump (less bell housing and torque converter). It all went together smoothly, proper gaps between flex plate and torque converter pads...no forcing required.

I think it will all go back into the car correctly but just seems odd.

Has anyone ever run into something like this? Pictures attached...

To my understanding the boxes are same its just the internals on the 4hp24 are stronger. Perhaps you just got a 4hp24 casing with 4hp22 internals!!!!!!! That's why you have the 4hp22plate on, reference for servicing............
If everything went on smoothly and no binding in neutral I don't see why it would not work.

I am using a 4hp22 box from a 325i in my 318i M10 similar to you I changed the bell housing and torque converter only.
