Gauge question

I got a set of gauges for parts a few years ago and finally decided to peak inside them today. The front of the cluster states VDO as does a sticker on the back of the gauges. However upon removing the speedometer/odometer it is marked as a Motoneter. Is that common? Would this gauge set even work set up like this?

I think they work that way. I think i have some swapped parts in mine, too

Both brands made identical parts and they work together. Kind of like how you can buy suppression parts or engine parts made by different manufacturers.
