    S54 Engine Management

    Hi All,

This my first post but have been reading this forum daily for almost 4 years now. I have always wanted to swap an S54 into my 91 318is but have never found a way that would be somewhat cost effective. Bimmerworld has modified CPU w/e-pedal and I see Alex Lipowich has been working on something and already sells it for E36 car but both of those sollutions are a little pricey and I would like to keep the whole project in the 12 to 15K range. I would also like to be able to have A/C and Cruise control which seems to be out of the question with the e-pedal. I found these guys in England Specialist Componenets that seem to have the right product. http://www.specialist-components.co....dCategoryID=35
but this requires a throttle cable linkage and I wonder how they make it idle well. Hoping that someone has some experience with this company, and that maybe a couple of more experienced people on this board (rthor432, Hoveringuy, Alex etc.) can shed some light on how you think this might work.

    Thanks,

    Seth

welcome to the forum. 780 gbp sounds like a very good deal. maybe too good to be true. i would want to speak to someone with experience with this company's products before dropping 1200 bucks.

Hmm could you not use VAC's Drive By Wire Elimination Kit, Hovering Guys Vanos Controller and Hall Effect Sensor Converter and a 413 Dme with a Custom tune from trm :)

I think it'd come out cheaper.

My VANOS controller won't work... yet. S54 has two solenoids per cam, M54 has one. S54 has 7 fingers on the cam sensor wheel where the M54 is hemispherical.

I would need to lay my oscilloscope on an S54 and have one to play with for a few days to re-configure it to work. I would also need to re-do the CAD files for extra MOSFET channel. (DISA wouldn't be needed so there's one right there)

Emailed the guys at Specialist, they said if we get 5 people it would be 15% off! :D

I'm going to speak with them a bit further to see if we can get 20, between the e30, e30 m3, and e36 guys on the various forums together. I bet they would give a 20-25% discount! :-D:-D:-D

Glad others have interest in this, but I would really like to know if someone has an s54 up and running on this system, and how does it run. Vegeta7 when you sent them your wiring harness how did it look, was the chassis side labeled and did they modify their mapping for your turbo application. Also what kind of documentation did they include. My project will not be quite as ambitious as yours. I just want a stock running s54 with a 6 speed that looks like it could be just another 318is (I'm old so Q-Ship is the term I would use). e30polak thanks for looking into the pricing for us, a discount is always wecome.

I doubt anyone has one running on this yet state side. I will definitely be in contact with this company, as I feel that we could probably get 15-20 people together to bring the price down even further. I also think that this system would be a good product, and that an English company would more familiar working with Dual Vanos engines. I will definitely do some more digging into this option, and will be in contact with the techs.

I like what Alex at ABL is doing, I think I'd rather go with that route. We'll see how long it takes for him to finish things up. I'm going to wait up to 6 months for him to finish, hopefully that would be ample time. I really want to be the first e30 in CA to be running an s54! :pimp:
