    Doing an s38 swap

So I am about to get an s38b36 off a 91 m5 and wanted to know what I would need to make this swap happen into a 89 325i? I know a lot of people have asked but I can't really find much concrete info on it. Anything will be appreciated.

    custom cooling setup
    e34 m5 trans
    motor mount arms
spacers for motor mounts to frame, or modify hood, or both
    brake master modification
    custom exhaust
firewall modification to fit the engine

look at ttrousdell's s38 swap to see what problems he had

i didn't do the swap on mine, but just some information after my own research.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

E28 m5 or e24 m6 cooling system and thermostat housing.
      300m.de steel mounts

      20mm subframe spacer

On brake booster you can modify aluminum intake.
On fire wall it depends on engine position.

      On my project I used a s38 b35 motor and m5 radiator
I had custom adjustable steel motor mounts.
On my intake I had the intake modified just like Hartge did in their H35-24 swaps
I pushed fire wall back to be able sit in postion II or III.
      My subframe has NO spacers.

^I did the swap. There is info on the wiring, my custom coolant setup. I used a G260, booster delete, stock headers can be used with treehouse CABs. and a little fire wall massaging.

That's awesome, so there is some work that goes into it. How about driveshaft. Which one was used to make it happen? Also, was the m20 ecu used or the m5 one?

I wish i knew what driveshaft. I bought my m30 swap prior to the s38 swap and used that. Are you planning to use the G280 M5 tranny, G260 M30 tranny or something else? The tranny will effect your driveshaft choice. Find out what driveshaft the m30 swap guys are using and that will prob work for you.

M20 ecu will not work. You need the black label 350 ecu. My reccomendation is to buy a complete engine bc its hard to find individual s38 parts like ecu, harness, etc.

The swap is more difficult then many think. I dont want to discurage you because it is a fun combo. Do some more research .

Well I'm thinking of getting the g260. I think they are doing either the g260 or g280. Unfortunately found the engine just with the harness not with the ecu.

I am aware that this is a pretty difficult swap to do but I can only imagine the actual outcome once it's all done.

How long did it take you to do the actual swap?
