And the car culture here is great, I doubt as if people in many other places will be so inclined to do a skid, race or rev if you give them a thumbs up.

I was also thinking this, as the R154 is a lot cheaper.
In fact, you would just be able to get away with a W58 behind the B40, albeit with not as much thrashing.
Though when a R154 is $1500 it'd make sense to just do that.
a w58 will take a 2jzgte happily if you have an education.

built one and swapped it in bpu in my sc300 and kept the original 5 speed to the car.

Why can't you use the transmission from an e39?

($140)
Oh, cool. Did you get a custom adapter plate or an off the shelf one?

It wouldn't take much abuse though past a stock-ish 2J, though, right? IIRC they're rated to like 350lb/ft or something.
        Got a MA70 non turbo with W58 myself. Great box. Selling the car tomorrow though ;_;

Because we don't have any M60/M62/S62 manual cars being parted. Or gearboxes from them. And the V8 manual cars are very rare, the cheapest at the moment that I can find is an e34 540i for 14k.
May as well use a box that won't cost the earth if I was to blow it up.

          My 2jzgte was bpu.

If you are not a MORON a w58 can take 380-450rwhp.

A bmw zf 5 speed can take about 700 - 800whp at max if you are nice.

If you drag race both will kaboom

Torque is what makes transmissions go boom, and that's what a decent M60 has shedloads of.

            Anyway.
It seems that the cheapest and best would be the M50 trans with adapter plate.
Now to get some money, buy a car, and waste all my money on fitting a V8 to a car that never had it :D

You are a bench racing yeenager

I've owned the cars; all of them.

A 2jzgte twin turbo makes much more torque than any bmw v8 in the m62, S62 era.

              3000cc twin turbo makes more torque than a m5 S62 5000cc

...I'm not sure where you got me being a bench racing teenager from, but anyway.
                Thanks for the input.

The part number for the front half of a 5speed E39 (535i) box is 23117504167.

                  Diagram http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...25&hg=23&fg=15

To fit the 6 cylinder ZF.

Last I looked Schmiedmann it was $800 NZ delivered (+tax). Which is cheaper than importing a box for sure. You still need to fit it and it's a bit of a tricky prick.

I'll probably still use an adapter though ha.

What adapters are you guys buying? I found the one in Poland but still waiting on a reply from seller if they will ship to me. I have spoken to dellow and just need to do a drawing up of the flywheel I want done, with the intention to sandwich the flex plate and spec bolt pattern to suit the heavy duty M20 clutch off my blown M42 :p

Problem I found when looking at adapters for the M62 was that the fly ring-gear was far too big to fit inside the 6 cylinder bell.

I've been looking at these from PMC Motorsport:

Which sound like a great solution in that the complete setup is less than a working V8 box in the uk, and replacement boxes are cheap, but I can't find any reviews or testimony.

Would a Getrag 260 be able to bolt up to a M62TUB35. I live in Australia and have the same issue and seemingly at the moment it is the most convenient with my budget. It is from a 528i e28 if that helps. Obviously it'll need an adapter plate or a different bell housing. Just concerned that the 260 wouldn't be strong enough for the torque of the M62. Any help would be appreciated. :)
