Oil spilling from around head gasket area after replacement???

So I have replaced the head gasket of my 325is with the m29b25 engine and got everything reassembled, but when it came to filling my car with coolant, I noticed a tiny leak coming from the water pump gasket. It was fairly small and I wanted to get my car started to see if it got worse, so I proceeded to fill up the oil, just to have it spill out around the head gasket area at the front of the engine after adding around 2 and a half quarts. I have no clue why there is such a massive leak exists, and prior to even starting the engine! Anyone have any idea what I missed? I am freaking out that I am going to have to remove the head again. :(

This is my first post, so forgive me if I may have left anything out.

I am using an Elring gasket and I do not think it is the cam seal. I got the head rebuilt and resurfaced for me, the only instructions that I was given were to torque the cam sprocket bolt and do a valve adjustment once the timing belt was on. I can't think of anything else oil flows through.

I also found this inch diameter metal ring underneath my car and have no idea where it goes. Any ideas?

Pretty sure that's the "bitch tube" washer:
          Part #10 here:

Are you sure oil is definitely coming from the front of the engine and not the side? If you missed that washer under the tube then the spring (part #12) would be sitting directly on the o-ring, digging into it unevenly and probably not allowing the o-ring to do much at all, so you'd definitely have a major leak there.

You shouldn't need to remove the intake manifold or anything to remove the tube. Just pull her down and that should give enough space to then pull her out and then reinstall with the missing washer. Take a look at that o-ring, it might be too mangled after the spring sitting on it, might be worth getting a new one. Also, with reinstalling that tube, the spring can be a bitch. It's much easier to compress it with some thin string (like ribbon, the thin kind used for balloons), put the tube in place, then cut the ribbon afterwards and pull it out.

Also, just wondering, did you have the intake manifold on or off the head when you were torquing the head? Just had a thought (only possible if you had the intake already on), what if the tube was misaligned and preventing you from torquing the head down evenly.

I'm not aware of anyone ever removing the bitch tube with the intake manifold in place.

Yep, if the o-ring/rings are leaking. Here's a pic of the string (in this case zip tie) method:

And the first thing he says is that you use the zip ties while you "put the manifold back". You can't change the o rings without removing it.

It's been a couple of years since I messed with it when I pulled the head, but I'm pretty sure I put the tube back in after I bolted the manifold to the head. Could be remembering wrong, but a few guys on here say they've done it too:
                  http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthr...t=95057http://

I'd say give it a shot, if it won't come out, then take the manifold out.
