    205/55s on e38 style 5s....need opinions

    hey R3v,

So I just recently bought some e38 style 5s which are 16x8 et+23. My car is still 4 lug, so ill be running 4x100 to 5x120 adapters to run these wheels. The adapters are 20mm thick...

My question is...what are your thoughts about running 205/55/16s on the style 5s? since im running the adapters, that will make the offset even more aggressive at et+3...

I assume a good fender roll will be needed. But will this size fit under my fender wells, or should i be getting a smaller tire size? Only reason i am considering 205/55s is because of there price ($140 for the entire set).

    opinions/thoughts?

205/55 wont fit without some work. this is a 205/50 on a 16x8.25 +0 offset. Fenders rolled, but still rubs on compression without working the camber over.

    this is the front.

i would recommend either the sizes im running or a 195 series tire to get it to fit without issues.

That looks dumb. Get some wheels that fit.

As you wishhhhh....like stated before, these tires are 205/40s. final wheel fitment is 16x8 et+3

Rear wheel fitment...required fenders to be rolled

Side profile shot (dont mind the front end. i wont be dropping the front anymore until i get a skidplate...)

                    and some randoms

                    this angle sucks...need moarrr lowwzzzz:down:

                      You will regret the 205/40s.

why, because the ride becomes "harsh"? if thats the case, ive driven cars wayyyyyyy lower than this, with stiffer spring rates. ill manage;)

Has nothing to do with harsh. It has to do with going with such a small diameter tire. I had the same problem with 215/40s and with your 205/40s the problem will be even worse. What happens when you go with such a small diameter tire is in order for you to lower the car enough to close the wheel gap enough be satisfied with it the car is un driveable. Look at your wheel gap then look at the space between your front lip/oil pan and subtract your wheel gap distance from the space between the lip/oil pan and the ground. Once I got shortened GC housings with shortbody konis I was able to go low enough for me to be happy with my 215/40s but then realized my skid plate was an inch and a half off the ground and I could hardly get out of the driveway. Now I am looking for 205/45s/215/45s. Live and learn.

Edit: The wheels on my sedan in my sig came with 205/40s and they were so ridiculous I sold them off even though they were brand new and got 215/40s.

                            Great info here. Thanks wish!

Ill drive it around and see what happens. I was originally not gonna lower the front, but what ill most likely do is get drophats and call it a day. This is my daily, so its not gonna be perfect...reverse rake for days lol
