My E30 1991 M42 cranks but does not start.
Using both a voltmeter and test light, I determined that voltage is not present at terminal 30 in the socket for the main relay. After reading other threads, it sounds like terminal 30 should have voltage at all times. Does the green/yellow wire that goes into to terminal 30 come from get voltage directly from the small black wire that originates from the + battery terminal.
In my car, this small black wire has voltage at all the places I checked: before and after the fusible link (big fuse) in the trunk, and where this wire appears to be attached to the passenger-side firewall (battery junction block?) in the engine bay. Should I cut apart the tape around the mess of engine wiring and start tracing and inspecting the green/yellow wire from terminal 30 to wherever it goes? Or am I on the wrong track?
