Different transmission?

I’m in the middle of installing a short shifter and it would appear that my transmission looks nothing like every single video I’ve found. Mine has a black plastic collar that sticks up through some foam and the new shifter isn’t even close to sliding in...
It’s an 86 325ES.

Pics? Are the videos showing an I model? The shifter carrier is one of the few things that changed through the years of the g260

You have the old style shifter plate. My 86 came with the mounting tabs so I was able to convert to late model style. Just be aware that the allen key screws that hold the plate to the transmission need to be threaded back in the holes or the fluid will come out.
