    Medium Z3 Differential Not fitting...

I'm currently installing a 2000 Z3 3.46 Torsion differential into my 1991 318is. The new diff seems to be a medium case and the 4.10 lsd i look out is a small case. The car has an s52 with a zf trans and a driveshaft from an e36 m3. Has anyone had this issue? Im thinking i need to shorten the driveshaft which i hope there is the space to shorten it.

My 84 originally had a small case diff and I've swapped it for a medium size , it bolted right up to the subframe and rear hanger. I didn't have to modify the driveshaft but did have to use correct / matching halfshafts and flanges .

You may have pulled the rear driveshaft out a bit during removal of the old diff. Try pushing it back in. If the small case diff fit the e36 m3 driveshaft, it shouldn't be a problem with the z3 med diff.
