    Zip Tie Engineering

today i messed up my iS lip. im sure this has all happened to you before. the sad part is that im not even lowered.

so at the corner of my passenger iS lip, there is a crack that hasnt reached the bottom of the lip yet. but the other areas of the lip is near flawless and the lip is near perfectly matched to the valence. so im thinking of a cheap method to fix it until i can hit the point of succumbing to buying a new OEM lip + paint.

    then i saw this.....

im thinking of stitching the crack in X shapes so it wont crack anymore and reach the bottom.

    thoughts?

Properly placed zip ties will hold bridges together.

Its kinda hard to see on the picture, but it sounds like your explaining what happened to mine on the drivers side. I think I used about ten or so zip ties to hold it on but I never had to worry about it after that. Just make sure the zip ties aren't too thick. In case something does happen you want the zip ties to pop and not have your lip rip.

              Fuck zip ties.

Really, I hate them. I use them to bundle/route wires and that's about it.

Rivets and a piece of sheet aluminum .060 or so behind the panel to reinforce also works well. If you drill a hole at the end of the crack it will help keep the crack from spreading.

I've done this for years now. Actually I got my is lip for free since it was cracked, drilled a couple wholes, zip tied it up and called it a day

                            ^ a very helpful tip.

We did this with our Saturn Lemons car, worked great. (drilling a hole at the end of a crack and also all the zip ties.)

I also did the whole zip tie thing under my STi where the bumper had split from some mounting points after hitting some cones at an autocross. It's held up great.
