School me on the E70 x5 Diesel....

Moved this from the Off topic Forum- hoping it'll get a little more traction.

Well I figured I'd ask around here since I trust more of you guys than other forums.

What is your take on the E70 (2008-2013) X5? More specifically the xDrive diesel variants of the M57N2 engine. Heading towards diesel, basically for towing ability (always need more e30's) and the overall fuel economy. PLUS, these things are depreciating faster than a hungry fat kid at a golden corral. Typically going for around $25k and under 100k. They are just a bit harder to find in the wild than the gas versions, but there still are a bunch out there.

I'm looking to trade in my '08 Audi A4 and finding one from a dealer. My plan is to keep this thing as my daily for well over the next 5 years- or until diesel becomes obsolete in the US (Thanks VAG for ruining everything) So I want to make sure that it will last me for the foreseeable future.

Anyone have any experience owning one or knowing much about them? Common issues? Longevity?

    Just curious- Thanks!

This thread is relevant to my interests.

I was considering an Xdrive35d as well but the VAG thing made me relax my efforts, at least temporarily. I was looking specifically at 2011+ models since that was the facelift year.

My 335d hasn't been the most fun ownership experience i've ever had.

I think I'm going to be checking these out this weekend. A wide range of prices for 2012's. Definitely see these things going for a lot cheaper via private sale. Unfortunately my Audi has been on the market for 5 months and I still can't find an owner. No one wants an older Audi anymore.

Anyway, definitely set for Alpine white with the brown interior :)

It all comes down to what we can work out with my trade in....

My parent's have had two and a 335d. The only issues they ever had were related to the urea system. The first X5 blew up a tank somehow and the second one needed an injector. All was covered the emissions warranty.

The 335d was perfect and honestly prefered it over my 335i at the time. The torque is a drug on the highway.

Thanks for the feedback guys- I spent the day Saturday in the god-forsaken lands of NJ looking at a few.

Currently in the negotiating phase right now- just pulling teeth to get the proper value of my '08 A4.

As far as Warranty and CPO- I found out that the normal warranty is good until 50k, while CPO is only offered on cars that come into BMW with the current warranty still valid. So one of them I saw from a BMW dealer was 57k and out of warranty- no CPO available.

So it's a little nerve wracking, I have not checked out third party warranty prices yet- but from what I've read- it might be a wise investment.

OH! and test driving them.....My goodness that ride is papered as fuck.

It's nice since the 2012+ models got a lot of optional equipment from other packages as standard, so they are pretty loaded (with stuff that will break eventually and be outrageous to replace)

Pretty sure I found the one! Haggled the shit out of the guy for a better deal between trade and invoice price. Took a total of 9 phone calls and the sales mgr was getting annoyed- but I got a fair price. Ironically and unintentionally on my part, its the end of the month so they are looking to make their numbers.

Anyway- just signed the paperwork, picking it up Thursday!

I'll let you know all the details once I finalize everything. I'm excited!

and see ya fuckin' later Audi. Never going down that path again.
