    Oil drain bolt snapped.

I was doing an oil change, and when tightening the bolt back in after it all drained out, it snapped, most of the thread is still in. Do i need a whole new oil pan now?

Has this happened to anyone else?

Go to your local auto parts store and ask for an easy out. That will save your bacon. And remember not to tighten the next one so much.

Get a new lower pan, it is about $75 (used) and takes 3 hours TOPS.

Before you can easy-out, you must first drill, which is bad ;)

Just drill and easy-out it. If you fuck up doing that, then replace your lower oilpan.

how did the bolt break before the aluminum stripped?

I would remove the pan to clean out the shavings...

Yeah, that's a good question. The alluminum is very soft and the threads will strip out easily before a steel bolt will snap.

go to bavauto and i believe they are like 99$. Well worth it IMHO. Make sure you get a gasket.
Once you get the old one off it will be easier to deal with and you can use it as a spare.
