I have owned this car for the last 5 years or so and have dumped a lot of time and love into this thing. It was my first car and it saddens me to list it up for sale. But it’s time to focus on other ventures in my life. I bought it with about 190,xxx miles and have since put about 50,000 miles on it. It has been super reliable and has never left me stranded or needed to be towed.
I WILL BE AS HONEST WITH THIS AD, some of these problems will reflect price. Just want this car to go to someone that will appreciate it!
I have replaced the m20b25 with a m52b28 from a 1996 328is. The engine had about 130,XXX miles when pulled from the e36. It took me about a year to collect all the parts for the swap and actually swap it into the car. During this process the head was removed. The head was then cleaned and decked at napa. I then lapped the valves and media blasted the head, came out very clean. New headgasket was installed with new headstuds. Along with all the gaskets everywhere else, chain tensioners, new ccv, safetywired oil pump nut, cleaned icv, and new sensors. The cams were installed with assembly lube.
This motor is very strong and does not complain at all. No smoke blue or white. Easily goes to redline. Rarely has this been done though. One problem, there is a vaccumm leak in the system somewhere. I’ve tried numerous times to resolve this problem but gave up and ran it like this. Has given me no real problems. The idle is a bit off when coming to a stop sometimes. And rarely will kill the car before coming to a stop. And recently has had a few intake backfires on a really cold start. Again just being as honest as possible, don’t want you to buy the car and be surprised by these problems.
