Linus- go to www.cmmginc.com and click on bargain bin. Real, legit, nice AR15s for $550. Every report I've read says they are in much better shape than advertised, with some folks getting virtually brand new guns.

        I'm a big fan of the CZ-75. Probably my favorite full-sized 9mm (though I prefer the P7M8 overall). I've got a CZ-97B at home.

I love my CZ85 combat, best full sized 9mm i've ever shot, and I've had just about everything. I picked up a P01 today for carry :)

LINUS --- you will like this one

Picked a new toy up yesterday. I could not pass the deal up and leave it at the gun shop. It is a Sig P226 Equinox by their custom shop chambered in both .357 sig and .40 s&w.

Oh yeah - 226's are where it's at by me. I just like how the frame geometry meet the palm of my hand - they are the best fitting handgun for me.

I remember the Equinox's in the catalog, just never had one on my hands - truth told, I never had heard of a .40/.357s one - that's cool.

Are Equinox's more than a 2-tone bluing? I don't have my old Sig brochure anymore.

Sig is dicking up by cutting the stainless frame out of the 226 lineup - that is a bitchin' gun to shoot - that extra weight makes for so little recoil it's silly. A girlfriend of mine was almost giddy over how much she liked that gun - had the SigPro there for side-by-side comparo's - and I was happy with it(SigPro), but she was hogging that 226 for how small the recoil was.

                -------------------------------

                Separate topic-

Now that I'm hunting down a AR-15 or a .223 rifle like that.......what's the running word on Sig 556 rifles?

I'm intriqued by them, but if a AR-15 is smarter money, then I'll go that way.

I know early 556's had problems (1st ~3000), and that now you get iron sights included.

Anybody shot a Sig 556? Any comparo's to AR-15's? Rob?

The equinox's are from what I have gathered are nothing more than eye candy. They made them limited but it is just the finish being black nitron with brushed nickel accents. The newer ones have a picatinny rail, siglight sights, and a grey laminated wood grip. Not sure if they were once offered in both calibers but the newer ones are just .40s&w. Probably on the one I picked up the PO just added the .357 barrel to it. The magazines say its for either .357 or .40 too so really not sure if thats standard or specific to this gun.

As far as the Sig 556 I have never shot one but I did hold one the other day at a gun show here and to be honest with you, I did not like the way it felt. It was really bulky feeling and front end heavy big time. The quality of the gun was nice but for the price of it ($1595), I have to say my Rock River I built up is far better IMHO. The 556 didn't look to be customizable like other ar-15 rifles are as well. I am sure the 556 is a fine shooter but just wasn't appealing to me after holding one.

The 556 is a answer looking for a question. $1400+ for no sights? No thanks.

There is nothing that gun does, at least for me, that a quality built AR15 will do, except cost over a grand without any kind of sights.

Rob - sounds good. I hadn't even had one in my hands yet, I just see a lot of good reviews from the Sig fanboys in the forums - but my local shop hasn't had one & your review is enough for me.

If I can make another AR fit like my Armalite, then I don't need to persue the 556 idea any further.

I just need to find a good place & get like 3 lowers, and build one up now & save the other pair for down the road.
I'll prolly PM you in the next couple days, maybe after the weekend.

Hey Rey, what does that place in Vegas usually run you ballpark? Last summer we went there for one of my buddies weddings and i wanted to make sure the range was one of my stops but between the wedding and being sufficiently inebriated, it didn't happen.

As for my guns, i am yet to take the plunge and buy one. Still in the shopping around phase and i haven't decided what i want to build. I have been looking at tactical shotguns which are more practical for home defense and then i start looking at ARs and the eleventy-billion options for those and just can't make up my mind. I have been doing a lot of renting at the range and it just makes it all harder. My favorite thus far is the Sig 220. For me it is the best fit, and even during rapid fire at the 7 yard line i can put together a pretty tight group. Low capacity makes me lean towards the G21 SF that i like, but the Sig is so much nicer. I also believe it was said on the AR15 forum about 1911's low capacity (same as the 220) that if you can't get it done with 8 shots then you might as well tuck tail and run.

If you are wanting stopping power I would suggest any gun that is chambered in .357sig. If you were to get double tapped but that caliber, you will not be getting up. I carry that caliber in a glock 33. Small compact and very reliable along with great price. I also just picked up the Sig P226 above in both .357sig and .40.

AR15's are great but study them first and figure out which way you want to build one up. If not you will end up spending as much with trial and error's getting it the way you want that you could have restored a e30 M3.

Tactical shotguns are great for home defense but I am thinking alittle different as I am probably going to pick up a 18" 12ga side by side coach gun.

                              Prototype full-size in wood/plastic?

                              It looks like cherrywood.

                              What is that, K?

It was kinda pricey, but I had already won some money from the casinos so I wasn't concerned at the moment. $40 per 25 round of belted ammo (FN 249 MiniMi, they might have an RPK as well), I think it was $50 per 50 rounds of magazined ammo (M16, AK, MP5, Tommy gun...etc).

Renting out the gun that you are contemplating on purchasing is what I actually recommend to my friends. Making sure that the gun has a good feel & fit in your hands, then trying out the caliber that you want it in. If you can't hit shit with the gun then don't buy it. If its going to be for personal defense or carry then I say spend the most money that you can. Why put a budget when its your life or a loved one's that is on the line?

I would prefer a shotgun for home defense but always have a backup. Tactical is cool but your basic 870s will work just as well. I actually prefer pump for home defense, but like I said always have a backup.

As far as ARs go, do alot of homework. There are many options out there but they not equal. You don't need to buy the most expensive but don't buy too cheap either.
