    Help With Lubrication

Hey guys, I need some info on oil for my transmission and differential. I have an '89 325I and I have fully rebuilt the 5 speed transmission with new bearings and sycros and the LSD differential with all new clutch plates, dog ears and ramps, and I am having a difficult time selecting the fluids for them. Should I use fully synthetic or not? What would be the weights of the oils that I should use? I have read that one person used Redline synthetic and it ate up his syncros, is that even possible?? I have 6 new sycros in there at a hefty price so obviously I don't want that to happen. Any help or information will be a big help. Thank you.

Red line fluid did not chew up someone's syncronizers. They are passing blame off of their own sub par workmanship.

Do you have a bently service manual? This book is the maintenance bible for the e30. It will tell you the correct viscosities for every location on your car. I would personally use only synthetic fluids in my car. Shell and mobile make great products. I would personally avoid bullshit botique companies like royal purple that charge about double for the pretty color. I dont have any experience with red line, but i would choose products from the ones i mentioned above.

    Welcome to the forum.

The risk to synchros is not connected to synthetic vs Dino but rather the additives. As long as you stick w GL4 you should be fine. It's the GL5 that eats synchros (& small children).

I use redline MTL in the trans and redline 75-90 in the diff (you'll want the lsd version of course). Assuming you're in the St Albert in Alberta both of those should be thin enough for winter.

Red Line has a reputation with racers and enthusiasts alike for creating products that perform and protect better than any on the market. No compromises.

But not this one, as not one member here turned the thread in to a sophomoric sex joke.

I was just thinking about a different lubrication. How about that?

Why are you banging gears? Use the clutch or r3v match next time.
