    Check out this turbo M10

This motor lives in a 2002, but since it's an M10 I thought some of you guys would dig it. Power is 400+ bhp. The intake manifold/throttle body setup alone gave me wood, not to mention the size of that damn snail. These were posted by iXer over on E30Tech. Enjoy.

It's too cute to have that much power.

    Ken, work towards that.

That intake manifold is hot fucking shit.

The lag must be rediculous with that turbo on that motor. I wonder when it hits full boost?

those holset's are crazy. my friend has one waiting to go on his FC (2nd gen) RX7. it really is the size of your head. those holset's are the turbos that you find on the greyhound buses. just insane, first time i've ever seen one on a m10 though. nice

Thats a freakin diesel turbo, holset hx30. Stock equiptment for a cummins diesel 5.9 liter. I've seen one push around 45 psi. Must have some nice internal work done. Of course the mclaren 320i turbo was making over 650 hp by the time they were done.

No, that's a Holset H2D. About the size of a more modern Holset HX50.
Forged Mahle pistons, Schrick cam with 304 degree duration and 10 mm lift, some mild porting work. It's a stock M10B20 engine in other regards, the entire driveline is a combination of E34 M5 diff+drive shaft and E28/E12 gearbox, half-shafts and hubs.

On further examination, the compressor wheel was bad and there is now a somewhat smaller Schwitzer turbo on it (59 mm inducer, 67 mm exducer) that he ran with before (3.5 secs, 0-100km/h). About the size of a large Holset HX40. Full boost 4k rpm up to 8 k rev limit (with 1.5 bar, the max of his Haltech F3 ECU).

Where can we see some more pictures of that beast? You obviously know more about it than we do.

If its close to an HX40 thats even bigger. A friend of mine used it on his cummins with the 4 inch downpipe. His truck made something close to 650-700 hp and over 1200 ft lbs. (with some nice mods) then he switched to twin turbo.

With 7.5:1 compression and boost at 4k does it have enough low end, or is it like an on/off switch?

That's a huge turbo for such a small engine. I can only imagine what the torque curve will look like.

A friend of mine had a 944 turbo putting down ~430 at the wheels (2.5l 4 banger) with a grossly oversized turbo running just 16psi. The car was no fun at all as it had hardly any power below 4500rpm.
