I'm not sure if your M50 motor is out of the car yet, but if not, you may be able to get it through the BAR process. Poking around Bimmerforums, and people seem to have gotten through CA smog with Schrick cams on their e36 m3's, but the results seem to vary. As mentioned, getting it running right with the proper chip/software is probably the first step. After that, it's a matter of having stock exhaust manifolds, CA legal e36 M50 cats, and making sure the exhaust routing matches the donor car (in this case the 2 downpipes merge into 1 for the o2 sensor, then back to 2 pipes into the cats). I went through Skyline college and had good results, but other refs have been said to be much stricter, so just something to consider.

If you want to try and get an OBD2 S52 BAR'd, this guy seems to have done so: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=282409

Any chance the rear suspension was still on it?

On Saturday it was. I might go back out Saturday morning to pull some more stuff so I'll take a look. I'll hit you up on FB if I go out there and still see it.

That would be awesome, let me know! I'm mainly just interested in the rear trailing arm/hub/rear brake setup.

I've run into a set of wheels through a trade offer for my RS, and unfortunately they're 5x120. I could either redrill for the cash he has offered on top, or do a 5 lug conversion. Tricky decision since I would loose my wilwoods up front if I swapped.

Yeah that is a tricky decision. If you went E36M parts up front that would probably keep about the same braking power yeah?

Theoretically, it should be about the same. Now that I look into it, it might just be wiser to redrill the wheels. 318ti rear suspension increases the offset 15-20mm on each side, and with 17x8.5 et13 wheels, that's simply too much. Apparently there's an increased offset in the front as well..
                Redrill it is... Thanks anyway!

Intriguing. That saves a lot of hassle. When you say "Malaysia" do you mean ebay?

Link to my craigslist ad. I've got the same stuff up for sale in the FS section. I'm trying to clean my garage. Make me an offer I probably won't say no.

Hmm good stuff. I was mainly concerned about the rear offset change. 3~mm is nothing to worry about. The front; meh, not really an issue.
If I can do it for under $1000 out the door that would satisfy me greatly. I highly doubt that would happen though...
