If you don't get a car with a motor with 200k miles on it, you probably will never need to rebuild the motor.

This question has never been discussed before btw.

haha, I do prefer the m20 in some aspects of design, which would probably directly relate to the m30... I hate the freakin intake manifold and the spagetti factory that is hidden beneath!

You cant tell me its not a pain to change the rear freakin knock sensor! lol. I just mean its much worse than working on the m20, and the angle isnt helping anyone!

I have an m50 car now. I'd like to eventually do an m30 car as well.

I can vouch that the rebuild isn't 'cheap' but its not too bad. Hopefully I can have 100k+ miles out of mine when its done. Even if the e30 chassis doesn't last that whole time I'll just have to find another BMW chassis to stuff the motor in :).

You should try to find an M30 swapped car because everyone already has an M50. But now im doing an M50 rather than an M30 so i feel lame :(

This has got to me the most retarded reasoning I've ever heard.

OP - it's your car, why not decide for yourself on what it will get? ;) Both are an upgrade from an m10/m20/m42. Both have pros and cons, and it really comes down to preference/what is available to you and how much you are willing to spend/your goals.

                          2 cents.

there is no replacement for displacement.

But there is something to be said for the efficiency/driveability of the smaller displacement engine.

Efficiency yes, but driveability? It's much much more enjoyable to drive the same car with more torque vs. a dinky 4 cyl.
