    Feeler: 91 318IS possibly FS

Ok- I am struggling with which direction to go on my 91 318IS.....

Hers the situtation: I bought the car a year ago to DD and save on gas- well it has since died.
The motor is toast from what I'm being told ( crack in the block)

Alpine white/ on Tan sport seats

    Mods include:
    -newer sport shocks
    -HR lowering springs
-14" basket weaves w/ stock full size spare
-cold air intake done by previous owner
    -e36 steering wheel
    -e36 shift knob
    -jvc head unit

    Condition:
-hand crank sunroof works and doesnt leak
-front bumper could use some paint; lower valence is bent a lil bit
-rear bumper has a little rust near the bottom, but otherwise in good shape
    -power windows work
-driver seat is a little torn up but its not too bad
-passenger seat is a 9/10 id say
reads 224,000, but the motor was replaced and it has around 140,00
-clutch done at the same time
    -no tranny grinds shifts smooth
-tires need replaced with good quality correct speed rated rubber.

I've also recently replaced the tranny shifter linkage and bushings along with the vibration dampner and tranny mounts.

Overall a very presentable little car up until the motor died....

So- with all that being said- I'm trying to decide if I should sell it or repair it?

As I'm sure I must post a price- I'll start at $1250 and go from there ( yes I know its HIGH- but you gotta start somewhere)

Yeah I've thought about parting it..... Just not sure I want to mess with the remnants.... I have a line on a couple of used motors- I may just replace the motor and go from there.....

Nice looking 318is! FWIW, I paid $700 for a rust free '91 318i with a broken timing chain. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

              good investment

keep the car and fix the motor.
say the motor and replacement costs 400, you were only going to get 1000 for the car - show me somewhere else where you can get a cool car with a performance suspension, a known motor history, the upgraded wheels (not bottlecaps), the right color (love white) that gets great gas milage for 1400 bucks? if you can let me know, i will buy any you can find at that price!

dont part it, this is an easily savable car.

              my2cents...

work out the valence, minor rust and paint issues and you will have a $3k+ car.

Please don't. Perfect candidate for a swap.

Hey neighbor! Get in touch with OrganicMechanic on here. He's got some engines lying around in the floor of his shop and might be able to get you back on the road.

if i lived in MO, i would've already bought this, only because the price is a steal. just put a new motor in it and call it a day.

I hate that everyone's first response is to part the car. Clean body trumps bad motor anyday. People that part clean cars are the reason clean e30s are disappearing.

Thanks for all the replys..... I really don't have the heart to part the car....
( and never really was considering it very hard) Its been a good car and I do love driving it...... It always puts a grin on my face.....

I've got a line on a couple of motors but getting people to respond to their own FS ads seems to be a huge inconvenience...... Cant seem to find anyone that wants my money!! ( well besides my stupid Ex wife)
