Engine is out, can I pull cam without removing my arp head studs?

I just found an awesome deal on a cam and want to swap it. I just finished putting my spare motor together using arp head studs and oem head gasket; however, everything is torqued to perfection and I don’t wanna mess with my studs if I don’t have to.

Is there a specific place I put my timing to make the removal/install safe and easy?

I torqued my head studs to 70fp and I hear you can only re use them so many times..

Any wisdom fellas?

You could take a picture of the cam position and re-install it the same way.

Studs are not TTY so can be reused as long as they are not damaged. However, you dont want to buy another head gasket. The good news is that you can back off all the valve adjusters, slide the rockers over and replace the cam with the head on

I don't think it is possible. Cam would need to be rotated to slide every rocker free

Just finished, didn’t take long at all. I kept the timing belt on and spun it as needed until I removed on side. I then removed the belt and pulled the cam shaft.

I ended up using a rubber mallet and a ton of extensions to ever so gently get things apart. Those rods seems harder to pull out than last time. I’m assuming that’s because of the studs. It actually works very well if your careful.

Why can't you release the rockers then remove the belt and pull the cam ?

Note: Now that I've had my coffee I see that's exactly what he did :)
