    4 HP 22 Tranny fitment?

I know that E30 auto's used the 4HP22, and also my 87 528e uses the 4HP22. Is it a direct fit back and forth? Looked on real oem, but the part number doesn't appear to be identical, but very close. Wondering if anybody has any prior experience using these transmissions back and forth between E30/E28.

    Thanks,

    Colby.

Didn't really look but are you looking at the right one, I think the 4hp22 EH only came on 535is to switch "modes" while just a standard 4hp22 came in 528e and e30s. Other than that I think they are the same.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering what the "EH" stuff was all about. Should it bolt right up between models? Same output flange / bellhousing and stuff? I'm assuming yes since the engine is the same as well. Just dont wanna buy an E30 auto and be stuck with it.

M30 4hp will NOT bolt to an M20. Bell housing is different, as is the output shaft. If you go to swap the bell housing, the entire pump assembly comes out unless you're careful.

          I don't see why an e28 M20 and e30 M20 4hp wouldn't swap. Shit, I've got a Rover 4hp bolted to a M52.

Okay, sweet. I'll pull the trigger and grab an E30 and go to town. If it comes down to it, I have the 5 series 4hp for parts. :)
