M50 swap that will blow your mind.

Yes, I said it. This thread that I’m putting up will blow your mind. I’m not going to start this off with a story about my car and the life it went through. I’m going right in to it. I’m using a booster that’s not 30 years old....... 🤯 I’m using a booster from a e92 and this is about how I made it work.

So I was doing some research on here and everyone is using some old pos booster that is 1 expensive and 2 way to much work to make it fit (in my opinion)

Someone on here was mentioning about sizes of boosters and the e9x one came up. 10” in size. So I kept that in mind. Was search on eBay for boosters and all the ones that people use for this swap was so expensive, $200 $400 $600. Like out of this world prices. The e92 booster came up, comes with master, reservoir, lines and gasket. Looked a bit weird but it looked like it would fit. At the price of $50 I said fuk it let’s try it and if it doesn’t fit, it was $50.

Now, a couple days later go by and I received the booster. Looks good, No damage at all, no signs of leaks. Now I’m comparing to the old 27 year old booster. The studs that goes through the firewall look the same. Missing two but it will work. So I put it in the firewall and goes right in. The lines for the master are on the other side. No big deal. Go take a look to see where the pedal lines up and guess what. Right on the money. Now I’m seeing the pin that puts them together has to be longer. So I made one.

    Now it’s bolted up.

So now I’m testing things. I put the brake lines on the master, the e9x master is a 12x1 compared to the old master that is 10x1. E39 has brake fittings that are 3/16 hole but 12x1 thread. So I Bubble flared it and was done with that. You can also find the brake fittings at your local auto parts store.

Now the lines are done. Pedal to the rod is done. Now to test if the engine will fit and it did. With minor issues but 1/2 clearance from the intake manifold to the booster. The brake reservoir is hitting the TPS. so I took a e34 530/540i remote reservoir and clutch reservoir and put it in the car. You can also raise the reservoir with some modifications and clear the TPS. Now to test if the engine vacuum will Work with this booster, I’m doing this because e9x use a mechanical vacuum pump. So I did and OMG. that nasty, spongy, old brake pedal is gone. I mean, it feels like a brand new car brake pedal.

I also want to mention that this will also Work great with the stock m20, m10 or m42 maybe even the s14 it could probably work with a s54 swap to.

Now I hope that this can be Another option for you guys and I hope that you guys don’t jack up the prices of the booster. There is no reason for it.

If you guys have any questions or need any help, hit me up here or give us a call at globo auto in south river NJ

This will be nice just to use for a newer option for even an m20.

So would you say this makes the braking response more crisp? Does it require less effort at the pedal to slow down than with the stock booster?

                  Yes to all the questions.

The e30 doesn’t feel like I’m driving a 31 year old car anymore. It’s very responsive, predictable pedal, smooth braking even with the RX7 calipers. I would recommend this booster to ever single e30 owner out there.

This is perfect timing for me. I am gathering parts for a M54 swap and have been looking through my braking options. I just pulled the trigger on one off ebay. These things are cheap.

Do you happen to know the e90 master cylinder specs compared to the E30 one?
