M30 position 3

    M30 position 3

    What mounts will allow me to put the engine back to position 3?

    Goodntight mounts have position 1/2.

    Garagistic mounts have only one position and idk which one it is.

    Cant find and e30.de mounts, I assume they don't make them anymore.

    So which mounts will get me to position 3?

    Anyone use the epytec 460 mounts? They look like the e30.de mounts.

    Engine bracket, gearbox bracket, engine conversion, manual gearbox, gearbox conversion, engine installation

          Hartge is the only company to make a position III car. It consisted of parts custom to build like oil pan, oil pump, and adjustable steel motor mounts. You will need to to modify fire wall

            As I understand both position 2 and 3 need firewall mods.

              I run the e30.de mounts, in P3 (although it's probably more like P2.5 seeing as Hartge had to modify the sump).

              Firewall mods are minimal with the M30B35 - the coolant neck on the back of the head for the earlier M30s were what caused most of the problems with the firewall. The e32 sump will work fine.

              You need to clearance where the starter motor is slightly, and just at the back of the head a small amount too... i.e. not even half an inch.

              Most of the bashing you see on build threads here is fairly over the top for what is actually required to make it fit.

              If you're going far enough back to need more major firewall mods, then you'd also end up modding the oil pan as the 'p3' position on the e30.de mounts gives you fairly minimal clearance for the sump in front of the steering rack.

              You can see the pace between my radiator and the engine here: My fingers can fit between the radiator and the distributor cap.



              The Epytec mounts look similar to my e30.de mounts, although the steel looks lighter (shouldn't be a problem - the e30.de mounts are very heavy duty).

                I am planning on using the rear coolant fitting on the back of the head. So I do know I will need to make room for that.

                I don't want modify the oil pan I just want the best weight distribution possible.

                Did you have to modify the pan to fit in position 3?

                  On my s38 and m30 swap cars are using e32 oil pans. The e32 oil are not modified. My engines are sitting in position 2 1/2.

                    It looks like I am going to source the epytech mounts and get the motor as far back as I can.

                    What is positon 2 1/2? Did you slot the mounts?

                      We have made mounts with position III, no oil pan mods needed. For reference each position is spaced 1" apart.

                        My project is on hold. I ran out of time and had to sell the e32. M30 had 265k on the clock and a rebuild was out of my budget. Looking to startup in spring with a lower mileage motor.
