coolant hose hitting fan ?

This weekend I started leaking very badly from one of my coolant hoses. Part #1 on this diagram:

It's the large hose that goes from the thermostat housing to the water pump. It turns out the fan was hitting it. It's an OEM hose that was just a few months old, and it was clamped securely and fully onto the stock location.

I've got a new hose coming in tomorrow, and I don't want this one to wear through. What could cause an contact issues between these two oem parts?

how are your engine mounts and transmission mounts?
it could effect the angle that your engine is sitting at which would make the fan get closer to the hose

i had the same problem with my car!

i bought a replacement hose and will be trimming the part that goes to the tstat housing so it doesnt hit anymore. i trimmed the old one, but i guess it wasnt enough.

You have a part # by any chance? Is it part #3 in the above diagram?
Or do you see anything wrong with using a large zip tie?

i tried that, it broke within a matter of days

just cut it down a lot

Yea, #3 should be there. I used a piece of wire because I broke mine...Don't ask me how it works, I put it on today.

ive had no issues zip tying to the lift point on the wifes eta.

I had same problem, #3 installed correctly, is the fix, or a zip tie.

I've used a piece of wire to pull it away from the fan. I don't think the hose I got was OEM...which could be the source of the problem. Trimming things would be another quick but messy alternative.

I had exactly the same issue but it started on the freeway and the hose didn't last long. After replacement it happened again. I ended up getting a coolant hose stay from BMA (part number BMW047854). No issues since.

Saw this old thread so I thought I'd follow up. I bought a new hose and magically no more clearance issues. Guess some hoses just fit better than others.

For those still having this problem with aftermarket hoses, I found that the zip tie fix works okay for a while, but the hose still clips the fan a little. I ended up putting a washer between the waterpump threads and the fan clutch:

This moves the fan a little bit farther away from the hose and closer to the radiator, where there is plenty of room. Here's how much clearance I have between the hose and fan now, combined with the zip ties:

I don't remember ever seeing that #3 hose clamp/bracket on my eta.. I'll have to take a look again, but I don't remember undoing or redoing it when I replaced all my hoses.
