    tick, tick, tick

I hear this coming from the engine. (if I remember correctly) Does this mean I need to change the timing chain tensioner? If so what is a good upgrade? thanks

If its noticeably louder than usual, then you probably just need a valve adjustment.

How exactly would one go about adjusting the valves on a M42. Enlighten us all.

        1. Crank down on the shaft nuts
        2. Losen the drive gear under the overdrive pulley
        3. twist the guiding rail 32.6 degrees past center
        4. Remove the oxcetelyne line
        5. sprinkle WD-40 over it
        6. Reverse process

        DUHHHHHH

Had that ticking in my M44 motor. Opened the hood and found a bomb - ;) J/k. In all seriousness, is the ticking a metalic ticking or a dull plastic-e ticking?

Take care of the obviuos - oil change, filter change, clean injectors, try a different fuel brand. Check for any belt hangups. Loose alternator, steering, AC pulleys. Change the tensioner, use the later one designed for the M44 motors.

If the obvious are not cutting it, then it may be a sticky lifter.
