the car is brazed in those areas because the brass is more flexible and less likely to crack than steel. the body is designed to flex at those points.

Well this week I was too busy to hang out after work and plug away on the E30, but managed to devote 6 hours to it today, bringing my project tally to slightly over 20hours.

Here are a few pictures from Thursday I think, showing the E30 in its current state of bodywork.

Still a long long way to go, but its nice seeing regular progress.

My day consisted of more tear down on the chassis, removing items that don't need paint on them or block what does need paint.

I remove the door mounted window trim, window guides, door harnesses, lock/catch hardware, door handle carriers, and a slew of plugs from each door.

I then moved to the bay to finish removing the IHKS box, and pulled it out of the car.

I pulled the ABS pump, pedal box, brake booster, master cylinder, and all the brake lines from the engine bay. I bench tested the ABS pump just out of curiosity by applying power directly to the motor... no go.. boo. I was betting the brushes were just seized to the commutator bar from the water they saw. I pulled the motor off the valve assembly and freed the shaft with some channel locks. Applied power again and she chooched right along. Nice.

Valve assembly will get a solid cleaning in the parts washer, and it may just survive. I stripped all of the hardware of it before boxing the rest of it for another day.

Speaking of hardware, the bin of hardware to be processed and cad plated is ever growing.

The calipers and suspension components will add to this pile quite a lot.

When the parts are blasted, cleaned and polished I will send them off for plating, when the return they will all look brand new.

Here is what some of the parts from the last build came out like.

it would probably be more "pain in the ass" than you would like, but an s62 would be one hell of an engine choice. just sayin'.....

I don't think this car is going to get a swap, not anytime soon anyway. Just going to keep it a simple restoration with the original engine.

flyboyx tipped me off to a "decent" charcoal carpet in an LKQ in SW Houston earlier this past week, I went over there today with the F25 to have a look. Carpet looked decent as said, definitely dirty as hell, but I felt it would clean up enough to be worth the $20. I also snagged a set of premium rear speakers, assorted switches, do dads, and a bunch of additional hardware to add to my bucket. More is always better. LKQ really nickel dimes you these days, wanting hollywood money for every little thing you take. Didn't used to be this way, but I swear the woman at the window was counting the screws and bolts for fucks sake.

Anyway, got the carpet home in its filth covered glory.

and after a solid half hour with carpet foam, purple power and a pressure washer. Scrubbed while hung and now left to air dry. Came out pretty damn decent all things considered.

VR6 or TDi Swap, FWD conversion.
"OEM" or "OEM Plus" is sooo 2012! ;)

Thanks for the documentation Jordan. Always fun to watch the process by others.

Do you have a thread for your F10?

Documenting the process is definitely part of the enjoyment for me.

No real central thread for the F10, but its all on F10.5Post. This is the main one I guess with the original http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1264793 and all of the major mods/upgrades have their own thread. Or just click any picture and find the whole F10 gallery on my Photobucket.

you are right in that those bastards nickel and dime the shit out of you. the seats out of that car were only 27 bucks each though. i thought that was a pretty good deal.
