Intake boot replaced on M42, all hell broke loose!

Ok I changed my air filter today plus replaced my intake boot which was looking like it might split open any day now...

Car started right up but Check Engine light came on briefly, then it stalled, car will not idle.

I took everything off and checked connections , wrapped more black tape over already cracking air hoses (yes, I have ordered new ones) and truied it again, more of the same... Any help on what to do next would be much appreciated. Car ran fine before swapping out intake boot. What did i miss or cause?

nice to see another bc guy here, you on bimmerclassics.net? Check the hose that goes into the engine near the intake boot, mine was disconneted after i changed the air filter.

Your car doesn't happen to white does it? :)

If I am not mistaken the M42 intake boot requires a "plug" to block off one of the holes....Part # 13 54 1 739 249 at Bavauto...Might be your problem if you didn't replace this plug.

Did you make sure you screwed the plug back in before the boot?

also check all your vacuum hoses.
