If you haven't yet, be sure to get it x-rayed. I did the same thing once jogging on uneven pavement and ended up breaking a bone in my foot along with the sprained ankle.

likewise....my ankle looked like that with a hairline fracture
1) take some aspirin. it will help fight swelling
2) keep foot elevated (above heart) as much as you can
3) before you go to bed: ice for 20 min then take off for 20 min
(i try to do this twice at least)
4) keep it wrapped! even when you sleep. it really helps with swelling
if its black and blue and the size of a grapefruit even after a few days, a visit to the doctor is a great idea.
I'm going to ice it like crazy again when I get home from work tonight. Thankfully its not purple & blue (just yet at least). I did hear the cracking/popping just before I went down though, that has me worried.
I would go to the doctor. I took a dumb fall on my snowboard last spring and though I just bruised my back a bit, but ended up I had a fracture in my pelvis. Rest of my life will be tons of fun, still hurts and it was like 7 months ago. Better safe then sorry.
