    Holset HX-50 too big?

    Hello all...
Thanks for the great forum. Lots of great info here...
    I have a nice clean M50 NV and ZF 310 5 speed. Came from a '92 E34.
My friend is a pretty talented machinist and recently opened his own shop. He offered to trade me a build for a car of mine that he wanted.
So basically I have a $10K budget to build this engine. I would like to have something in the 550-600 whp range. This will strictly be a fun car, not a daily.
    Just a couple of questions:
    1. I like revs. Can you build one of these to take 7500-8000 rpm?
    2. Is a Holset HX-50 too much turbo?
    3. Given this budget, what would you guys do?
    Many thanks in advance...

For the turbo, there is no too big or too small for a motor. Do you need the compressor to flow 1100 cfm? For 600whp, no. Look at something that flows 750-800 cfm. This is how you should think about which turbo you want to run. (600whp think pt6262, BW s360, gt35r or equivelent)

About the other stuff, cost kinda depends on how much of the fab you can do
    yourself. 10k is pretty safe

You can rev to 8k. Thats about what the hydraulic lifters can take but for longevity its the crank harmonics you want to think about. the 75mm crank and 140mm rods will help this as the rod/stroke ratio will be better. Some people wing it with an s52 and an ATI balancer. check out someguy2800's thread on bfc. He assembled a motor from assorted stock parts and revved it to 8k and about 600 horse
