M50 with getrag 240 ,help needed!

Hey guys, sorry if i have posted in the wrong thread.

I am needing a bit of help with my m50 swap. I am unsure which driveshaft to use as I will be using the getrag 240 and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info around that. I am wanting to know which driveshaft to use, which car it is out of, auto or manual etc. Any help would be much appreciated.waffles

    Cheers

When I was looking into this it seemed the 318is shaft would work. I didn’t verify it personally as the 240 wouldn’t clear the factory s52 flywheel. I ended up with a 260 and 325i driveshaft. Sorry I couldn’t give you a 100% answer. I have a 318is shaft if you want me to measure it.

M52 with G240 from a 318is, so it has a slightly longer output shaft, E36 325i Manual driveshaft worked, probably too short for a 318i G240.

G240 from a 318i will use a 320i Manual Driveshaft, you might find the manual 318is Driveshaft would fit, I found it was about 2cm too long to fit with my setup, but if you have the shorter G240 it might fit.

So 320i would be a good idea?

What driveshaft did you end up using? I’m assuming you have an318is right?

When i did my swap from M40 with getrag 250 (it was swapped from an E36) to M50 with getrag 260,i just kept the front part the same and cut 4cm from the rear part...Machinery shops do that for very cheap...just bolt everything up and measure how many cm it needs to be cut....;)

Using a g240 with the M50 results in a distance of about 59 inches from face of guibo disk to face of diff. flange (4.10 unit), so the stock e30 318is driveshaft will not work. Even when the front half spline is pushed all the way into the rear half, the drive shaft measures about 61 inches total length, and the second problem is the mounting holes on the CSB bracket will not line up with the holes on the body.

I am in the middle of M50 nv swap and using the car' stock g240 (318is) and I found that the front half of the stock drive shaft measures about 26.5 inches from the face of the guibo disk to the center of the center support bearing which is about 2.5 inches too long. I was able to find (local pic a part) a front half drive shaft from an e30 325i which measured about 24 inches from face of guibo to center of CSB, and that worked great.
