    Spare M42 refresh/rebuild

Picked up a spare M42 yesterday that I will be refreshing with new timing components(late M42 timing case),gaskets, etc. I'm still in search of the timing case however. I ordered all timing "things" from FCP euro, and should arrive tomorrow. All I've done so far, is get it on the engine stand.

Dang man, I was just thinking of starting an M42 rebuild myself! How far are you planning on going, internals & etc?

I'm installing all new timing components, and refresh the head. ARP head studs, MLS HG...then turbo

Started to take it apart today..gaskets were aftermarket, so the PO at some point, did upper/lower oil pan gaskets. Also the 6 sump bolts were all tight.

I'm doing all this work at a friend's shop. He has this parts cleaner at his shop that's like a dishwasher for parts. I just threw in the lower oil pan for 10mins to test it out, pan came out pretty clean.

Nice, although I don't see a water pipe there, hope you don't neglect that failure prone component.

Didn't do much today, just more parts cleaning. The late M42 timing case should arrive Thursday.

Looks great! Thanks for documenting the process. Will be following to pick up some tips for when I get around to this one day.
