using OEM eurohitch to tow my other e30?

I have a euro hitch laying around and finally have a reason to use it. I was thinking of using it to tow my 318 with my 325i. Is it safe to do? I would have to rent a uhaul trailer. Also not sure if uhaul will allow me to based on their restrictions.

Seen people do it before, not too long ago some older chap posted his e30 hauling something larger than his e30. I would go with a truck though.

I like hauling with larger transportation. If you had a BBK and a 24v or something I would see no reason as to why you cannot haul it safely.

if the 318 + trailer weighs more than the 325 then you are going to be pushed around by the trailer. you always tow with a car/truck that is heavier than what you are towing. you have more control of the car. its like that vid of the wagon flipping carting the e36. the trailer +e36 weighed more then the wagon which prob led to the flip

Plus, if anything happens, you are liable for gross negligence. You're towing ~3500-4000 lbs with a car that weighs 2500 and isn't rated to tow a fraction of the desired load. Plenty of cases exist where people get sued into oblivion for towing more than rated amount or with improper hitch or improper vehicle.

Uhaul rents trucks along with trailers, don't be a retard.

What is the weight rating on that hitch? If its anything like the version that mounts to the bumper and spare tire well, I can't imagine its much over 1000 pounds.

Spend the money and rent a Uhaul van & trailer. They won't rent you a trailer anyway.

The uhaul car hauler alone weighs 2200 pounds, and they wouldn't let us use a Jeep Wrangler with a proper class 3 hitch. I couldn't imagine using an e30 to pull it, even with the uhaul van you never forgot it was there.

The truck and trailer rental was just over $300 plus fuel when I towed my e30 home from Burlington, VT to Enfield, NH (about 100 miles). It probably would have been cheaper to hire a flatbed. If you're thinking that towing will be a regular thing, buy a cheap truck off CL. If you tried this anyway and something happened, I'd bet that your insurance company would laugh in your face.

the largest problem you will have is THE TRAILER BALL IS A DIFFERENT SIZE!!!! not sure which one is larger, almost pos. the U.S. is larger, so that means the trailer WILL pop off that ball.

Uhauls are typically 2" hitch. Just rent the uhaul truck to do the towing. Or do what I did and buy a $500 tow vehicle haha. After a few trailer rentals with the one-way dropoff fees, it has paid off.

Regardless of anyone's opinions... Uhaul won't allow it.

This is one of those things that's like, "My car can do 150mph on city streets." Yeah, it probably can, but it is FAR from safe or smart to do so.

The things that Europeans are allowed to do with trailers are frankly staggering and not especially safe. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that it is a good idea.
