    New Cat. Maybe?

I think I might need a new Cat and/or O2 sensor. My 318i failed emissions twice today. After the first failure the oil was changed and the stock airbox was put back in, but it still failed. I'm going to have the mechanic look and see if the cat is bad (there has been some loud vibrations coming from it's direction for a while). My question is, what kind should I get? OEM? Aftermarket? Where should I get it from?
DIY Installation shouldn't be too hard with a bentley should it?

the cat is part of the down pipes. Its not a DIY install. A shop would have to cut it out and weld a new one in.

    go aftermarket, its cheaper.

you should talk to Dave Lumbar, he is right near you. I'm sure he has a decent downpipe/cat section you can buy off him cheap.

i wouldnt know what brands to get, as i wont be running a cat on my car.

Where I live there are no sort of emmision or inspection tests of any sort.

So if I buy the cat+downpipe combo from BavAuto it should be a bolt on install right?

Mine was for my 325e. Although I'm not a BMP fan, I'm fairly impressed with that item that I purchased from them. The only problem I've had with it is the heatshields surrounding the cat. It didn't take long for a couple of the spot welds on the heat shields to rattle loose and make far too much noise. I simply removed the heatshields on the cat. With urethane mounts nearly everywhere in my car, I do feel a lot more vibration than most e30s. It didn't surprise me to have those heatshields come loose. The one that I purchased from BMP was much lighter than the OEM (probably close to 20lbs lighter).

Don't forget the good things Hitler did.
