    '83 318i m52b28 alpinweiss

Well, after a lot of thought, ideas, intentions and conversations with a friend, this has finally begun.
The patient in question is a (very) early 1983, initially wearing a M10b18 but maybe it is a little small for certain requirements.

At first without being aware that i would soon have an engine in my house, just to improve the car, i made the 5 lug swap and put a set of cheap coilovers (only for now)...

    My GF wants to help

Well, the interesting thing occurs when a friend offered me a M52B28 with some work done (e34 oil pan, exhaust adapted to the chassis, m50 intake ..)

    And a little trailer/spoiler pic.

Nice early chassis, where in Spain are you? I travel to Rota and Sevilla and I see a ton of French cars these days.

I should have known you were near. The "Madre Coraje" clothes bins looked very familiar :nice:
I used to go to the meets with Albertosi and the other guys from Seville, when i am in Spain, but my work keeps me busy and it´s been a while since i have been able to go.
Also, i have neglected my 318is since i got the E34. I need to get back on it before i take it to a meet. It´s not too presentable.

Anyway, check your inbox later for a PM.

Knowing that the engine is on the way, we proceed to take out the small but indestructible M10 from the chassis.
                    Here some other rides.

Along with some e30 friends begins the operation, remove the hood of the car and start to remove all wires, filter, air hoses and fuel, masses, transmission, clutch line ..

And in less than 1 hour or so, we have the 4 cyl out.

                      23/12/2003

Once the engine arrived home, I see what I have and what I need.

                      need:
                      -e34 throttle cable
                      -driveshaft (328 i suppose)
                      -cooling system
-i have no power steering, i need a e36 one

Already with the m52 at home and said, I see that I have two harness.

In a box full wiring m50 e34 with red label 413 ecu, initially each cable was labeled, after checking out, I notice that the tags are wrong and correct it, perhaps for this reason is mounted wiring m52.
In the engine, mid installed,a m52 harness without ecu .. I need to get one and delete the immobilizer.

At firs i want to go m52's route, i need to identify each wire and see if it's well installed, ... for the m50 correcion use this scheme but im not sure if it will be the same if the m52, I have to confirm.

oil pressure sensor BRN/GRN or BRN/GRY

front coolant temperature sensor (ECU) BRN/RED BRN

rear coolant temperature sensor (Gauge Sensor) BRN/YEL BRN/VIO

crank position sensor YEL i dont have any wire with only yellow, the most likely is yellow/black and yello/without colour

cam position sensor YEL RED/WHT BRN/ORG

                      VANOS solenoid RED/WHT GRN/BLU

knock sensor, 1-3 BLK NCA DME PIN 70

knock sensor, 4-6 BLK NCA DME PIN 69
i dont know wich knock sensor go with wich connector

throttle position sensor (TPS) BRN BRN/BLK RED/YEL

intake air temperature (IAT) sensor BRN GRY

                      idle control valve (ICV) WHT/YEL RED/WHT WHT/GRN

                      Evaporative emissions valve BRN RED/WHT

And the second day ends like this.

Throughout christmas we have been collecting parts like m52 ecu, specific motor mounts for the swap ,wiring

We have researching about the wiring, this is an early e30 and it have square c101 and this is a bit differente from the round c101 of the typical e30 .

My GF again helping to clean

                        some pictures..

Have you checked your crank position sensor? it can be checked with a volt meter don't quote me on this but i think it should read 540 ohms of resistance if it is good. I would also see if you have a fuel pressure regulator if you have fuel and spark. This is what my issue was and the quick check was to use some pliers and clamp the return line and see if it starts. If it does you need a fpr.
