Seat Shock Installation - Seat bottom adjustment doesn't work?

Edit: See post #5 - seat bottom adjustment doesn't work.

Okay, I've hit a little snag. My seat shocks are not held on by 8 push clips, but rather, 5 push clips, and three pin/rivet looking things. How do I remove these? If pics are required let me know. Thanks.

Update - they're just covers. They pop off and the push clip is underneath.

if there is no or little pressure left you may be able to compress them by hand. Otherwise use a pistol grip clamp with the rubber pads removed (so it doesn't slip off the strut and injure anyone) then pop the single push pin off. Once you lift that the open U end will be free.

If you are replacing the with closed end struts just cut halfway through the hole and clean up the edges. Once it's positioned on the hinge DO NOT take your hand off it til that push nuts is set.

Yep, I've got all four done now. Easier than I expected, to be honest. Love the labels BTW. Seat back works great. However, my seat bottom adjustment doesn't seem to work. Not sure why. Pressing down on the rear handle doesn't seem to do/release anything. It does move, had to open the gap up to install the shocks. Maybe it's just because it's sitting in my living room and I can't put enough force on it?

Even when all your pivot points are clean and lightly lubed, the bottom can be quirky. I'd def bolt it down then try again. Just keep in mind the struts are not designed to lift your weight so sit, push the lever, grab the steering wheel and raise your butt. The seat bottom should follow..well...your bottom :-)

It also pivots forward as it goes up and vice versa

Yeah, it needed to be bolted down. It moves. Unfortunately, whatever locking mechanism keeps it where it you set it doesn't seem to be working. Driver's seat works beautifully though.

Edit: scratch that. Driver's side back mechanism doesn't like to lock in place either. I'll have to take them out again later and see what's going on. Might just be sticky.

My seat bottom would slip out of any setting except full low and the seat back was slow to lock into position. When I took everything apart to replace the shocks, I cleaned up the adjustment mechanism real good and lubed it. Works perfect now.

The internals of the mechanism and teeth on the gears get gunked up over 25-32 years.

                Hope that's all yours needs.
