May 2017 Car of the Month: reelizmpro

***Editors Note: I've been bugging Barry to feature a car for a little while now, the hard part is that Barry owns 2 E30 M3s, a turbo M20 vert that I believe is a factory Mtech2 car, and he just restored a Euro 323i to a full Mtech1 tribute car. I really wanted to feature more than one, so we kept going back and forth. He really wanted to showcase his newest build, but I have a severe lack of M3 love in my choices, so I told him it needs to be one of the M3s. What a tough life Barry has to live... Congrats Barry, one of your cars made it to the May 2017 Car of the Month. Maybe if nobody cares we will feature another car soon! - Simon***

    Story Behind the Car:
The story of this car begins with me rebuilding the S14 on my other M3 back in 2011. Having the car down for almost a year, I began to look at buying another. I had always wanted the quintessential Alpineweiss M3 as that was the color that was promoted in nearly all the advertisements and track cars. I put the word out to a few friends that I was looking and a friend pointed me in the direction of a local car that needed some loving.

When we went to see it, the car was rough but completely mechanically. The car was used for track duty and had no HVAC, stereo, power door locks, power windows were converted to manual but it had a fresh dash and reupholstered Recaros. While it was very rough, it had a lot of potential including the original S14 and the price was good. It took me about an hour after seeing the car, to close the deal.

Believing that all original M3's deserve to be restored to their former glory I drove it home and started the restoration immediately. Other than a few M3 specific parts, many of the deleted items (mostly electrical) were sourced from a wrecked 325i. Everything was restored but I chose to keep the manual crank windows and sunroof as a preference.

Once you have crank windows (maybe not in a sedan I guess), you never want to go back.

Manual windows & sunroof is a solid 80s car to me. When opening the windows and roof, its literally an 80s party inside the car (picture cranking the windows and sunroof at the same time while 80s music plays)
