    M40 Lifter Noise

Just replaced all of the lifters in the M40 in an effort to reduce valve train clatter. Now the car is ticking even worse than before, even after 90 seconds of operation, but only from one lifter so far as I can tell. Also checked the oil spray bar, which is fully functional.

Any tips, tricks, or suggestions to quiet one new lifter?

    Necro Edit:

Turned out to be a collapsed brand new lifter. Then purchased an M40 refresh kit (lifters/rockers/cam) from Schmeidmann which really improved the engine response.

On the M42, at least, it can take 10- 15 MINUTES of running to fully quiet a set of lifters that have bled down.

Yep, I remember that from when I rebuilt the head on mine years ago.

However, the M40 has now run for about 15 minutes and might have become slightly less noisy. We shall see how it does when it gets driven a bit.

The way to bleed lifters is to run a warm engine at 3500 rpm for three minutes. Worked for me on an M50 that had been run low on oil
